Our client, a well respected and established Ophthalmology group based along Wickham Terrace has a rare opportunity for an experienced Medical Receptionist/Secretary to join their team on a maternity contract basis working 4 days a week, the roster likely to be:

Monday - 8:00am to 4:00pm

Tuesday - 8:00am to 12:00noon 

Wednesday - 8:00am to 4:00pm

Thursday - 8:00am to 12:00noon

The position would commence as of Monday, 30th May 2022 and would include a handover with the existing member of staff heading onto maternity leave in early June 2022.  The contract will work up to and including January 2023 (8 months). 

Key duties and responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Taking all incoming calls and assisting patients with general enquiries
  • Arriving patients to the practice 
  • Preparing and running patient clinics
  • Processing patient billing and receipting for consultations
  • Preparing patient files and entering patient information into medical software platform (Best Practice/VIP software)
  • Liaising closely with patients and explaining the documentation and process associated with their appointments
  • Co-ordinating all paient post operative appointments 
  • Editing of digitial dictation letters and medicolegal reports 
  • General administration and secretarial support to the group as required

Essential skills required for the position will include:

  • Previous experience (at least 2 years) working within a private surgical specialist practice preferred
  • A solid understanding of Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, Medicolegal and Private Health Fund billing
  • Exposure using a previous medical software platform (eg; Best Practice/VIP) will be highly regarded 
  • Prior experience within the area of Ophthalmology will be viewed favourably 
  • Efficiency and accuracy with all patient records and corrrespondence 
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work in a close-knit team environment
  • Ability to work in a busy, fast paced environment
  • Solid organisational and time management skills


A generous casual hourly rate between $30 - $37 p/hour + super will be offered to a suitably experienced candidate, paid weekly.
